Join us on board for the Riverboat’s first Spanish-themed Wine Nite, featuring six of Spain’s most popular wine varietals and styles, and an all-you-can-eat cookout by the Riverboat culinary team.
Happening on the al-fresco Bridge Deck (L3), the evening will feature six wine tasting booths where you can interact with our in-house wine specialists and learn more about the wines. Each booth comes with a recommended food pairing, cooked or carved by our chefs right before your eyes. Experiment with different food and wine combinations to come up with pairings that work best for yourself!
The Featured Wines
Begin with Spain’s signature traditional-method sparkling wine known as Cava, and two bright and refreshing white wines made from the native Albarino and Verdejo grape varietals.
Castellblanc Cava Brut NV, Catalunya
Pale straw colour with a persistent stream of bubbles. Fine aromas and flavours of citrus, melon and peach balanced with a delicate note of bread.
Chef’s suggested pairing: Crispy-skinned pork belly with citrus chutney
Vionta Albarino 2016, Rias Baixas
Brilliant straw yellow with flashes of golden green. Fruit-driven with aromas of green apple, melon and kiwi. Soft and pleasant acid on the palate, with good structure from lees maceration, and a long aromatic finish.
Chef’s suggested pairing: Pan-seared scallop with herb-butter dressing
Valdubon Verdejo 2016, Rueda
Bright straw yellow with steely green tones. Complex, intense, and predominantly floral on the nose, as well as strong expressions of white fruits. Full bodied, full-flavoured, and with striking acidity, with a persistent, characteristically bitter finish.
Chef’s suggested pairing: Gambas al ajillo
Moving on to the reds, Spain has plenty of indigenous and international varietals, but the two reds that put Spain on the world wine map are undoubtedly Garnacha and Tempranillo – both of which are well-represented in the evening’s selection of wines.
Garbo Negre Garnacha-Shiraz Semi-Crianza 2016, Monstant
Deep Morello cherry red in colour. Full of red fruit, hints of wild bramble, and subtle mineral and balsamic notes on the nose, as well as light touches of licorice. Good acidity on the palate, with soft, rich and ripe tannins.
Chef’s suggested pairing: Veal ragu pasta with cheese
Nauta Monastrell 2014, Alicante
Deep red in colour with a touch of violet. Ripe fruit and dried grape on the nose, with nuances of coconut and vanilla. Medium-full bodied with silky, ripe tannins, and an extremely long finish.
Chef’s suggested pairing: Roast beef ribeye with classic gravy
Valdubon Tempranillo Reserva 2011, Ribera del Duero
Intense red in colour with a touch of violet. Complex and spicy on the nose, rich in ripe fruits, intermingled with notes of licorice and nuts. Bright on the palate with good acidity, ripe tannins, elegant attack, and an intense finish.
Chef’s suggested pairing: Pistachio-crusted lamb rack with red wine reduction
Dig in also to a supplementary buffet spread featuring an assortment of tapas, seafood paella, charcuterie, salads, and lovely desserts.
